Universities maintained their unbeaten run in the Sydney women’s limited overs competition with an eight-wicket win over Penrith in their Round 9 clash at Howell Oval on Sunday.

Opener Georgia Redmayne once again led the way with an unbeaten 80 as Universities cracked 2-162 off just 25.3 overs in reply to Penrith’s 161.

Redmayne blazed nine boundaries in her 86-ball knock and shared an 88-run opening stand with Rachael Haynes (42).

She has now scored 595 runs for the season for Universities at 74.4 with a top score of 162.

Spinners Maisy Gibson (3-30) and Emily Mifsud (3-37) had earlier helped Universities dismiss Penrith in 47.5 overs, with Samantha Arnold (30), Rochelle Davis (24) and Amy Edgar (22) the main contributors with the bat.

In the Round 8 clash against Gordon the previous week, Universities captain Alex Blackwell played her 100th game for the club.

And she celebrated the occasion with 51 not out as Universities cruised to an eight-wicket win.

The NSW captain and Australian representative was one of the founding players for Universities when the club was formed through an amalgamation of the Sydney University and UNSW women’s clubs in 2004-05.

Universities are well on target for the semi-finals, with three rounds of the competition proper to be played. They meet Northern District at the Village Green on February 14, Gordon at the Village Green on February 21, and Sydney at Drummoyne Oval on February 28, before the semi-finals on Sunday, March 6.
